Dried papaya can be hard to find in the US, but it's a popular snack in many tropical countries. It is known as the paw paw plant and the fruit resembles a soft musk melon. The papaya fruit is peeled and sliced into various sizes and soaked in a sweet liquid to give it a firm sugary coating. When it is cut into small 1/2" x 1/2 cubes,is called "papaya dices". When it is cut into 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" squares, it is called "papaya wedges". Sometimes the cut is long and approximates a 1-1/2" x 6" segment - called a "papaya spear". The most common cut is the middle size - the papaya wedge.
