Blanched Peanuts-Roasted & Salted
We consider the roasted and salted blanched peanut to be one of the most upscale peanut products we produce. It is more expensive because the blanched peanut lacks a skin. The roasted and salted blanched peanut is primarily used as a cocktail peanut and has a strong and full flavor. It is often used as a gift or as a gourmet nut ingredient.

Dry Roasted Peanuts-Roasted & Salted
Gourmet chefs love the dry roasted peanut because it has a lot of crunch. They often use it as a roasted and salted nut. When the peanut is dried and blanched after harvest, it tastes like a pea. Roasting brings out the full flavor of the peanut. Most peanuts are oil roasted in our plant. The exception is the dry roasted peanut which is good for health reasons and is sought by people who make peanut butter. hence, it is often referred to as "peanut butter stock" because it has less oil content than the other roasted peanuts.

Raw Blanched Peanuts
The blanched peanut is really a redskin peanut that has had the red skin covering removed. It is the most common peanut because Planters (Nabisco) made the peanut famous. Planters was the Peanut Growers Cooperative for all the peanut farmers. They collectively marketed under the brand name - Planters. Hence, we associate Planters and peanuts in the same sentence for the past 70 years. How's that for great marketing? So what is this blanching thing? it is removal of the red thin skin covering the actual peanut. The way the red peanut skin is removed is by dropping the peanuts through a set of mechanical brushes which makes the red skins break open. The skins are blown to the side by a blast of air. This is called mechanical blanching. Another method commonly used is to blast the redskin with water. This does a better job, but it is more costly and the peanut has to be dried after it gets wet.

Raw Redskin Peanuts
The redskin peanut is the most common peanut. Originally the redskin peanut was grown in the southeastern United States and this peanut was a primary feeder crop for livestock. The redskin peanut or "runner peanut" found its way into the American diet after World War 2 and was the most popular snack food for many years. You may recognize it by the name "ballpark peanut", whereby the peanut is roasted in the shell and cracked open to nibble on during a ball game. The redskin peanut is what is inside the peanut husk. For many years we roasted many truckloads of ballpark peanuts, but in 1988 we retired our two roasting ovens to a museum in Dusseldorf, Germany. The Burns ovens were of 1904 vintage! Like most other nut roasting firms, we no longer offer this product, which is now made using higher technology....

Spanish Peanuts-Roasted & Salted
There is a memory older people have of buying a bagful of roasted and salted Spanish peanuts at the local five and dime store (Woolworths or Kresges) in the 1950's. Eating freshly roasted Spanish peanuts was a tremendous treat! Nothing has changed! Eating roasted Spanish peanuts is still one of the great treats of all snack food. We roast the Spanish peanut to full flavor using a special process and lightly salt the peanuts to bring out the full flavor.
