Hazelnuts

Over 80% of the filbert crop is grown in northern Turkey on steep slopes dropping down to the north to the Black Sea. The farmers in Trabzon rely on this crop as their main income. Some years frost and blight have ruined their crops and this has devastated the world supply. The rest of the crop is grown in Oregon and Washington. That is a very small part of the world supply and most of the Orgon Hazelnuts go to the grocery stores for sales in the holidays. A small part of the crop is shelled and sent to firms that use the nut meats all year long. As a roasting plant, we use the hazelnut from Oregon for roasted mixed nuts and trail mixes..
